Alkylation

Either HF or sulfuric acid units would be covered. Details of three Alkylation APC sessions follow:
1. Alkylation operation and economics (80 minutes):
- Alkylation chemistry and equipment configurations.

Operational considerations - HF safety, IC4 separation and recycle, inerts purging, Olefins/IC4 balance, dryer switching complications.

Unit economics.
- Key reactor control handles.

Reactor effluent flow, IC4 make-up.

Separation control handles.
-
NC4 purge, Isostripper reboiling, propane purge.
2. Inferential modeling (40 minutes):
Please note:
If attendees have not taken the narrow cut fractionation training then the session would last 100 minutes.

Modeling of alkylation feed stoichiometry.

Modeling DIB product purities.
- C3 and NC4 in IC4, IC4 in NC4, C5 in NC4, C4 and C5 in alkylate, Alkylate RVP.
3. Alkylation APC (40 minutes):

Control issues:
- Reactor stoichiometry.
- Inerts removal.
- Control of IC4 make-up during dryer switching.

Constraints and APC structure: CV’s, DV’s and MV’s.

In the reactor, isostripper and depropanizer sections.
